Tasha here, officially back off my hiatus of blog writing and generally informing the world of what I've been up to etc etc.
Well, as told in the last issue of Theseus, I went to Thailand for 6 weeks with a charity to teach English to kids. Well, that was eventful. Fantastic, yet eventful. The kids were amazing, but there is definitely some people who have deserved a place in my next novel or piece of work, as hey, that's the ultimate price to pay for people who drive you around the twist isn't it?
So, I'm back! Ready to give writing advice and (mostly) whinge about my struggles with writing. So I'll just dive right into it shall I?
Well, well, well. You novellists out there will know my struggle when you hear this next sentence.
I've been editing my novel.
And it's been hell, I was told editing a novel would be about cutting a lot out, but I'm finding myself just editing little grammar mistakes and then EXTENDING. My 100 word opening paragraph has now became 700 words, which I guess is a good thing seeing as I wanted to boost it from 50k to 100k, but jesus christ it's DIFFICULT. My inner editor isn't happy that I locked him up last November when I wrote this, and he's in full swing.
It's got to the point where I want to murder all my characters on the first page and then write THE END HA, just to spite everyone.
But that would be bad.
All in all, anyone who thinks novel writing is a walk in the park, think again. And be afraid, very afraid, of the inner editor. He's a git.
Adios,
Tasha
